Mission Statement

The Highmount Preservation Association is a group of full and part-time residents who are concerned about the Belleayre Resort at Catskill Park real estate development that is proposed for the west side of Belleayre Mountain.

We strenuously object to the entanglement of the state run ski center and a private real estate corporation. The DEC operated/NYS owned Belleayre Ski Center should not be consorting with or subsidizing private real estate development in any way, shape or form...up to and including the building and maintaining of trails, lifts, snowmaking, or skiier access tunnels with taxpayer dollars for the exclusive use of resort guests

This new proposal, which is in the Pepactin/Delaware water basin, is only 15% smaller than the initial proposal for the Ashokan Basin area. We feel it is environmentally and economically unsound. The very qualities of this area which have made it so beloved by both residents and visitors alike, are threatened. We would support responsible development at Wildacres, on the lower part of the mountain which is appropriately sized, environmentally sensitive, sustainable and economically viable.

Our mission is to stop real estate development on the Bellearye/Highmount Ridge and remove the connection between the DEC run Belleayre Ski Center and private real estate development.
